current wish list

So I recently went on a crazy mission to clear my room and now that the cleanliness has been sorted, I am psyched and pretty much obsessed with revamping my room. Like putting some additions to it to make it much homelier, make me wanna not go out and just chill in my room all day long. Which brings us to the above picture. Yes I am on the lookout for home candles. But I have no idea where to start looking.

I OTed at work today till 8ish, left the office and walked all the way from Suntec to Cityhall in my approximately 4inch Zara peeptoes to grab a mini on-the-go dinner and at the same time, scout for some home candles. Dinner turned out pretty good since it was 我爱台妹's sweet potato fries. Walked to Body Shop, all I saw were fragrance oils and burners. Went on to Robinsons and spotted the above baby :3

Yankee Candles! Though I am not too sure if S$39.90 is a justifiable amount to pay for solo candle. In its defense, its probably the same size as the half pint glass of Kronenberg that Applebee's serves. I have no idea how long its gonna last me though.

But after thinking for a good 5 minutes or so, I still couldn't figure out if I was willing to part with a swipe of my debit card or maybe 3 orange Yusof Ishaks and a couple of purples and greens just to get ONE candle. Then again, now that I am home, I can't help but think of how Sea Air smells like, and how my room could potentially be so much better with some Sea Air.

Anyone else has any other bright ideas on how to revamp my room? Or maybe any other brands of home candles for me?

I'd seriously kill for them Sea Air right now. Maybe I'll drop by Robinsons again tomorrow. Goodnight all.

Musings; 01112012

I am once again, super unproductive at work. Much time spent online doing absolutely nothing when I really should be doing my work. Dilly dally and it's now lunch time. I am feeling some salad and fresh fruits.

14days to +8610.

On a very random note, I can't wait for our next overseas trip together B. 😔 A getaway from +65 is really what I need.

Teenager in love

each night I ask the stars up above, "why must I be a teenager in love?"

&in that moment, I swear we were ∞

"I don't know if you've ever felt like that. That you wanted to sleep for a thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist. Or something like that. I think wanting that is very morbid, but I want it when I get like this. That's why I'm trying not to think. I just want it all to stop spinning."

"So I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them."

Perks of being a Wallflower is a treasure trove of sorts. I like that the book is written in a way that you are reading Charlie's letters to his friend. I can't describe that feeling when I read Perks. It kinda makes you feel, forlorn.

I don't think the movie killed the book. I just think it gave it more dimension. Go watch, go read.

Still figuring it out

Since I was just on the topic of finding myself yesterday, thought I'd share with you a video which I've actually seen previously, but thought it'd be pretty apt to feature it here.

If you don't know who she is, you should go read her blog, Style Rookie. She started blogging in 2008 at age 11. She was invited to New York Fashion Week at age 13. Currently she's the editor-in-chief of her own online magazine, Rookie

I have always loved reading and I love listening to different individual's opinions on everything and anything. And I absolutely enjoy her perception on different aspects of popular culture. Do read, do read.

I have transcript-ed a portion of her talk; the parts that I found really thought-provoking or inspiring.

"So I think the question of what makes a strong female character often goes misinterpreted, and instead we get these 2 dimensional super women who maybe have one quality that’s played up a lot like, you know, a Catwoman type, or she, like, plays her sexuality up a lot, and its seen as power. But they’re not strong characters who happen to be female, they’re completely flat, and they’re basically cardboard characters. The problem with this is then people expect women to be that easy to understand, and women are mad at themselves for not being that simple. When in actuality, women are complicated. Women are multi-faceted. Not because women are crazy, but because people are crazy and women happen to be people.

So, the flaws are the key. I’m not the first person to say this. What makes a strong female character is a character who has weaknesses, who has flaws, who is maybe not immediately likeable, but eventually relatable.

..one thing that can be very alienating about a misconception of feminism is that girls then think that to be a feminist, they have to live up to, you know, being perfectly consistent in your beliefs, never being insecure, never having doubt, having all of the answers. And this is not true, and actually reconciling all the contradictions I was feeling became easier once I understood that feminism was not a rulebook, but a discussion, a conversation, a process."

Do let me know what you feel :)

Run of the mill;

Was reading my past livejournal posts. Can't help but realise that I used to more, me in the past. Now I feel strangely inclined to be what society wants me to be. What society perceives as interesting;

I used to have more useful habits. I used to do things that I want. I read novels, I read graphic novels, I roam the cyber world not to stalk interesting individuals who i aspire to be like but to find out what cool indie movies I can watch that deserves to be watched.

So is social media the bane of what used to be a personality?

Why did I wanna be someone else? when I can be me? Somebody totally original and special?

Maybe its time I took a step back, get my life back in perspective. Maybe that's when I can finally shed the society goggles and be what I am truly meant to be.

Hope you guys are still around when I find myself, x.
